In the Digital Age, our corporeal experiences are not simply overlooked; they are increasingly translated into information. The body becomes a data resource through smart watches, health-monitoring applications, habit trackers and other systems designed to measure, classify and optimise bodily activity. Beyond the body itself, identities, social relations, sexuality, consumption and other aspects of lived experience are increasingly rendered as data. This transformation produces an unsettling question: what is filtered out when lived experience becomes information? The research project Personal Bubble began from this question. It asks how personal boundaries shift and adapt in relation to physical and digital environments, and how an imaginary personal space might become perceptible through an artistic installation operating between these realms. The concept of the Personal Bubble was initially conceived as a way of making something normally invisible—the boundary around one's body—spatially and materially perceptible. The research initially approached this as a problem of the digital. However, the practical process gradually complicated this distinction. Digital technology could no longer be understood simply as a separate, immaterial realm opposed to physical experience. Computational systems depend on sensors, materials, infrastructures, interfaces, rules and bodily practices. They operate within environments and increasingly participate in producing those environments. The question therefore shifted from how digital technology affects personal space toward a broader enquiry: how do technological systems organise relationships between bodies, tools and environments? This shift became particularly important through experiments with physical computing. Physical computing provided a way to make software and hardware interact with the physical world: bodies could be sensed, translated into information, and used to produce material responses. This offered a practical model of the larger process under investigation. A bodily event could become data; data could become a computational rule; and the rule could return to the body as an environmental condition. The research consequently became concerned not only with what happens when experience becomes data, but with what happens during the translation.
