Relationship in this research describes a dynamic arrangement of influence, constraint, response and possibility: less a connection between separate entities than the process through which their possibilities are shaped through interaction. This shifted the research away from asking simply what a tool allows an individual to make. Instead, the practical experiments began to ask two related questions: What kinds of does a tool make possible? And what, from everything happening within those , is the tool capable of noticing?
Looking back at these experiments, I began to understand relationship differently. I do not mean relationship primarily in the sense of friendship, intimacy or emotional connection. I mean something more basic: what I do changes what you can do, and what you do changes what I can do.
What becomes possible between us through the tools we useāand what, from everything happening between us, are those tools capable of noticing?
